Intro to DUI Testing Methods

If you're stopped for a suspected DUI, the police have a right to do a test to determine the alcohol level. The three most common tests in Arizona is a blood test, breath test, or a urine test. Urine is used in a very limited circumstance usually in a drug based DUI. For alcohol based DUIs, you normally are going to see either a blood test or a breath test. Each of the testing methods have their strengths and weaknesses. It's important that if you're charged with DUI that you have the testing method used in your case evaluated so that you understand where the strengths and weaknesses are with your particular test and whether or not the test in your individual case suffers from many defects that may be used to aid in the development of the defense or in the process of plea negotiations.
